Standing like a Tree and Taoist Breathing – 10-11.11.2018

“A small movement is better than a large movement,
no movement is better than a small.
Silence is the mother of all movement. ”

(Wang Xian Zhan – one of the masters of Zhan Zhuang)

Standing Qi Gong is the basis of internal martial arts and internal work in Qi Gong. It is used for regulating the body, gathering and strengthening our qi and cleansing the nervous system.

During these classes, we will focus on centering and functional organizing our body by practicing Qi Gong in stillness. The Zhan Zhuang system of exercises gives us a deep insight into both the mechanical and energetic structure of the body.

On the physical level, we will work with the force of gravity and on the energy level with the polarity of sky and earth. Within extended periods of standing in specific positions, the body will begin to regulate itself in accordance with cosmic principles. After some time, as a result of this practice a sense of a center and centerline (central channel) is established.

This reorganization of the body towards its center creates a good base for a deep experience of relaxation and stillness. This stillness is for us the foundation of a sincere and true relationship with oneself and the world. Being in such a stillness, we can hear and understand the world better.

Zhan Zuang (standing like a tree) is a simple practice that allows you to achieve deep effects in all aspects of our being: physical, energetic, emotional and also spiritual. Zhan Zhuang is known for the possibilities it offers in terms of deep relaxation, stabilization and cleansing of the nervous system.

Breathing is closely related to our emotions and our nervous system. The ability to guide and lead our breath to the lower centers of the body will support internal processes in the practice of standing like a tree. Therefore, focusing on breathing will be an important part of our work during the workshop.

Taoist breathing allows you to regulate the nervous system. It also facilitates opening and relaxing the body and enhances the circulation of body fluids and qi in the body.

The fact that we breathe 24 hours a day shows that the way we breathe has a fundamental impact on our lives and its quality. Establishing deep and regular abdominal breathing is the basis of all meditation practices and Qi Gong.

The workshop is for all interested, both for advanced and beginners in Qi Gong.

Taoist Yoga & Longevity Breathing 16-17 June 2018

This workshop will be unique, because relatively little known Taoist Yoga will be taught by Ron Timm in Poland for the first time..

The goal of Taoist Yoga is to open up a system of body and nerves by relaxing the nervous system and allowing the harmonious flow of Qi energy in the body. For this purpose, opening positions are used that work much deeper than just stretching the body.

Complementary to this, but equally important, is Longevity Breathing.

The way we breathe has a major impact on our nervous system and the circulation of Qi in the body.

Taoist breathing allows you to regulate the nervous system. It also facilitates opening and relaxing the body by propagating the movement of the diaphragm on the whole body. Finally, this way of breathing “drives” the circulation of body fluids and Qi energy.

The fact that we breathe 24 hours a day shows that the way we breathe has a fundamental impact on our lives and its quality.

Being in toucht with our breathing and our respiratory patterns also means being in a close contact with ourselves. Establishing of deep and regular abdominal breathing is the basis of all meditation practices and Qi Gong.

During the workshop, we will use Taoist Yoga position and Longevity Breathing techniques as mutually complementary methods for maximizing health benefits.

Qigong workshop 21-22 April – Small Vegetables & Fang Song Gong

Small Vegetables & Fang Song Gong – Qigong workshop – 21-22 April 2018

This special workshop will deal with two topics – ‘Small Vegetables’ and Fand Song Gong and we will have time to get to know a variety of small and smallest exercises which will support and complete our Qi Gong practice. This weekend is a perfect introduction to Qi Gong and is ideal for people who feel the need and want to start practicing Qi Gong on their own and at home.

Theme of the workshop

Small vegetables

The name “small vegetables” in this context refers to a traditional Chinese meal where beside the main dish you get a variety of side dishes, little cups and plates with different vegetables, leaves, stalks, roots and berries prepared in various ways. These ingredients are also used in Chinese herbal medicine and have the function to balance and complete the dish on the levels of energy, taste and content. Hence these “little vegetables” are actually making a dish healthy and digestible.
Analogically we will learn in this course various small exercises which often tend to be left out in courses with other main topics. These exercises complete others which have already been or will be learned. I personally appreciate these exercises because they are small but effective.  Partly they can prepare, partly reinforce, they inspire the body, prepare structures and eliminate states of misbalance. Just like the vegetables they have a completing effect, are nutritious, precious and healthy and build a good base for Qi Gong, Taiji or other body work.

Fang Song Gong

From Chinese: Practice of letting go, relaxing. We learn different exercises and through them ways and manners of relaxing the body. These practices have an effect mainly on the upper extremities and the spine. In those arias of the body we also find the most spread and common tension patterns (for example shoulders, neck and back). But simultaneously these exercises refer as well to certain levels of the nervous system where the origin of the tension is located. The movements of Fang Song Gong allow us to become aware of hidden tension patterns, help us to release them and therefore also have a strong regulative effect. The exercises are very suitable for the daily practice at home because they are simple but effective and joyful. One of the exercises for example is named “good mood exercise”. Isn’t it obvious – being relaxed we are joyful and in a good mood. The Fang Song Gong set completes perfectly other Qi Gong exercises and gives a good base for Taiji practice.

Summer retreat 2017

Hands Move Like Clouds and HalfMoon Step
deepening of the practice
– summer retreat with Ron Timm in Poland

20-26th of August 2017

Qi gong is the foundation for any kind of bodywork, work with energies, martial arts and meditation. To do Taijiquan as an inner martial art, a good and profound Qi Gong practice is required. One could say that Taiji is but a form of Qi Gong. Here you can see that the practices of Qi gong and Taijiquan are strongly interwoven and share the same source.

Within this retreat we will use and learn Qi gong exercises as a basis and then deepen our understanding of Qi gong (moving the Qi) as we enter into the fields of Taijiquan. To do so we will learn the “Cloud Hands” – a beautiful and touching set of exercises that will create the link from Qi Gong to Taiji. Further on in the classes we will discover the different qualities of Qi (yin and yang), work with them and realize their importance for our health and wellbeing.
Cloud Hands” is a series of three simple movements that can easily be learnt. The practice of cloud hands harmonizes the interplay of the right and left hemisphere, treats the back in a gentle way, has a soothing effect on the nervous system and in this way it leads us into the subject of moving meditation.

In order to work on the deeper levels of ourselves this retreat will also cover and embrace the subject and practice of moving meditation. Later in the week we will learn Half Moon step and connect the Cloud Hands with the stepping.

In the end we will have learned an intense and complete practice that incorporates all aspects of human life (physical, emotional, mental and spiritual) and that can be exercised and deepened over many years.

Rising&sinking+meditation

Raising and sinking, low tides and high tides are the ancient movements of life, which have a significant effect on our health and our well-being. They are exemplified by inter alia the day and night rhythm, the quality of our sleep and our life in general, the bloodflow, body temperature and heartbeat rhythm.

The nature of energy is to move, flow. When the energy stops flowing we feel bad or get ill. We call it an energy block. Unblocking and moving the energy is the first of the aims of Qi Gong exercises practiced in movement. After reaching this aim there follows a stage when the exercise should follow the energy that is already flowing. The next level of exercises is meant to streamline this flow and control the energy.

In brief, the levels of Qi Gong practice are

  • Unblockingand moving the energy
  • Followingthe energy
  • Streamlining and controlling the flow of energy

The workshop is a perfect introduction to Qi Gong practice, its principles and effectiveness. It is designated to everyone who is interested in Qi Gong exercises and everyone who wants to feel better.

Apr 1st 2017 – Stress, Burnout & Qigong

Stress, Burnout and Qi Gong – Water, Stillness, nourishing and cultivating Yin

The knowledge and the experience of traditional Chinese medicine as well as the practical qi gong exercises allow as a deep insight and understanding of energetic dynamics and tendencies that lead to stress and burnout.

In qi gong we approach the body as an energetic system. All physical actions and reactions are therefore expression or consequence of energetic tendencies. The modern phenomena of stress and burnout are signs of social but also personal energetic tendencies. The same tendencies we recognize on a global level where they lead do similar problems (waste of natural resources, heating up the atmosphere, national dept etc).

The term “burnout” originally relates to rocket technology and already says a lot about our actual idea of man. It stands for burning out physical and emotional resources and (life-) force.
Qi Gong however, since thousands of years, deals with directing, cultivating and conserving qi (life force).
In this workshop the deep knowledge and understanding that has been passed on through Qi Gong practice will be related and applied to the modern situation. We also will learn practices to make visible energetic tendencies, to counteract them and to reverse them if necessary.
